A Reply I Received
Listen man, I have degrees in both religious scholarship and philosophy. I’ve learned how to sift through quite a bit of information relatively quickly. Also, I’ll be honest, I was reading through the information looking for the flaws, holes, fallacies, and general weaknesses. Once I found one in the “evidence” I moved on to the next one.
And there you go with an Ad Hominem. I’ve come to expect this of most atheists. You are assuming that I am lazy and that I don’t consider the effectiveness of the arguments. As a Philosopher, that is a great insult. And again you are assuming something of me that you simply can’t know for sure. You are just taking that on blind faith. I can go through each one of your “evidences” and present my arguments against them if you really want me to. Just say so if that is what you want me to do.
I said that Christians believe regardless of the evidence. He considered that Ad Hominem. I didn’t say he was lazy; however, he claims to have gone through the evidence in about two hours. Two sessions in the Yale lectures can take two hours and there are twenty-six sessions; not to mention the countless other videos. Followers, was that wrong of me to say what I said?
Now he claims that he will go through each of the evidences and present his arguments — oh what an unfamiliar claim; I’ve heard it before and I still haven’t received a reply from the other person. I assumed that he would try to go towards Philosophy — a field I don’t pretend to be an expert in. I also assumed that he would go towards Theology; he may be surprised with what meets him there. In any case, I can’t pretend to be excited about this. The bark is always loud, but the bite is toothless.
